ONE HEARTFUL THING # 6
The time will come when, with elation you will greet yourself arriving at your own door...
Now and again, I send along One Heartful Thing to share with you instead of an essay and recommendations. I hope you enjoy today’s poem as much as I did.
Dear Friend,
When was the last time you greeted yourself with elation? When did you last sit to feast on your life? This summer we are slowing down. Slow enough to notice. Slow enough to feel and be present in our own lives. Slow enough that we can recognize ourselves and learn to “love again the stranger who was your self. “

Love After Love by Derek Wolcott
The time will come
when, with elation
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror
and each will smile at the other's welcome,
and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you
all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,
the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.
